And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, “Fill four waterpots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood.” Then he said, “Do it a second time,” and they did it a second time; and he said, “Do it a third time,” and they did it a third time. So the water ran all around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water. (1 Kings 18:33-35)

There is an attraction in Jamaica known as “Fire Water”. Its correct name is the Windsor Mineral Spring and it is located in St. Ann’s Bay. It is a small pool of water which can catch fire! It is believed that this phenomenon resulted from a high concentration of sulphur in the water, which is said to contain medicinal properties. The fire does not burn your skin but is potent enough to cook a meal. Massages, using towels soaked in the sulphuric water and held in the flames, are usually offered with the client lying in the water. Many persons testify of its healing and rejuvenating effects (see Jamaicantravelandculture.com). Tourists might have doubted before until they see for themselves. They saw water as fuel for the fire.

But a greater phenomenon occurred on Mount Carmel many years ago. Water soaked timber and stones burned to ash in an instance! No, this time the wet timbers didn’t smoke. The miraculous blazing fire was lit by God, after a sincere prayer from his servant, Prophet Elijah! The sacrifice was consumed and everything burned up – even the altar on which the sacrifice was offered. Twelve water pots of water poured over that sacrifice and filled the trench only served as fuel for the fire. Not even water can quench fire lit by God! It was at this experience the people shouted: “The Lord, He is God. The Lord, He is God.”

God’s people are being bombarded with one crucible after another. The enemy of souls is on a rampage of destruction. The fight is on! But we are assured that the hotter the battle, the sweet the victory. Our God Who caused fire to burn on water; Who lights fire without matches; and Who caused water soaked timber and stones to blaze in a pool of water will deliver His own! Our crucibles are only fuel for the fire! You can rest assured that though iniquity increases more and more, God’s grace and protection is here in even greater amounts. We will not fear because the Lord, He is God. He is God of the impossible.

Prophet Elijah prayed: Lord, “let it be know this day that You are God in Israel”. And what a revelation followed! He is waiting to reveal Himself in our situations. We only need to ask. Are your problems pressing you down? Do you feel like giving up? Hold on my friend. Your challenges now will seem as nothing if you see them for what they really are – fuel for the fire. Your God will fight for you! Everyone will know that you serve the God of Heaven Who sees you and hear you. Just call out to Him. Then leave it there, because they are only fuel for fire.

Holy Father, only You can cause water soaked timer and stones to blaze and burnt to ash in an instance. Only You can cause fire to burn on water that doesn’t burn the skin but will cook a meal. Only You, oh Lord can intervene in our problems and used them to bring You honor. So, in Your hands we place our hands and pray that You will hold unto us in these trying times. We look to You for our deliverance and others will see and know that You are God. This is our prayer in Jesus’ name, amen.
