And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. (Genesis 32:26)

The day of reckoning was near. The day he looked forward to, yet feared more than any other, was finally approaching. What could he do? Even with all that he acquired in Haran, he knew he was powerless against his brother Esau. He remembered the prayer he prayed for God to give him a safe return to his homeland; but still he was fearful. Would Esau destroy him and all that he had acquired? He desperately needed assurance from God that all would be well, and so he prayed. He reminded God of His promise to “deal well with” him. He acknowledged his unworthiness for God’s mercies but he held to God’s promise to make his “seed as the sand of the sea”. And so he prayed for deliverance from his brother. He wrestled with God.

I have been in situations when, just like Jacob, my back was against the wall and there was no way out. It’s like I can’t go back and feared going forward. That’s when I wrestled with God for deliverance. I reminded God’s of his promises of protection and prosperity; of His high ideals for His children. In times like these, my smaller than mustard seed faith, must do no other but to cling to God for dear life. I prayed without ceasing. Deliverance must come. God must do something. And He did.

I am again facing a greater crucible; and again I am hanging unto God’s promises to make a way. Like Jacob, my day of reckoning is here and I cannot go back. I must go forward in faith. I must hang onto my belief that God will honor His promise of deliverance and provision. I must believe. This belief is different from the Three Hebrew boys – if God choose not to deliver. God must deliver, He can do no other. And I know I am not alone.

So many parents are now experiencing a similar crucible as I am: back to school expenses and empty pockets. With school fees to be paid, books and uniforms to be purchased, together with other expenses, we can do no other but to call on Jehovah Jireh. Even with classes to begin in a couple days, I must wrestle with God. I know the education of His children is important to Him. And so, I wrestle, I pray, I keep believing. God will come through. He will make a way! You should too. Hold Him to His promises.

Oh my Father, like Jacob, I will not let go until you bless me; and not me only Father, but all persons who are wrestling with you for deliverance. Remember all parents who are struggling to send their kids back to school. So many students are being refused because they do not have the money to pay. O, Father, honor our faith even now and provide. You promised and you cannot lie. Thank you for your provision and deliverance. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
