Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” (Matthew 9:29)
The dream of owning our first car was largely motivated by our friend Betty. She is such an inspiration and positive soul to be around. One day, while walking home, she commented that she had purchased several cars before, only to have them taken from her (although not through default on payment); but, she declared that the next time would be different. As she walked, she would pray and ask her Father in Heaven to give her another car – and He did - and that too was also taken from her. But she never gave up on her dream of having her own ride that she would keep! Back then, I was so impressed at her positivity and was encouraged to save. Wow! And did our efforts bear fruit!! It was difficult because times were hard (times have always been hard), but we made it. God rewarded our faith and determination.
As I reflect on the many dreams I’ve had, and those accomplished, I am amazed at the journey. God has always been there! One accomplishment is like a springboard to the next dream. In the pursuit of owning our own home God was there with us all the way. We saved out of the small blessings He gave-but He multiplied His goodness towards us. There was a house being offered for $2.4M with a deposit of 15%, but God gave it to us for $1.7M with a deposit of just $100,000 (approx. 6%) that we had managed to save. We only needed the closing cost – which He also provided! The miracles didn’t stop there: before all of the foregoing was negotiated, in making the deposit to the agents, the next person in line behind us was there to purchase the same house-- in cash!! Wow!! Immediately behind us in the line. Talk about saved by the bell!!
I am encouraged to hold onto my dreams. God is not dead and He will see me through. You can too. You will be smiling all the way when your dreams are realized. Just look back over your life – it hasn’t been easy. God has always been there for you, helping you along the way, and He promised never to leave you.
The blind men followed Jesus from one point to the next while calling out to Him to have mercy on them. They would never give up on their dream of sight. They wanted their sight: they kept going and kept asking. Others were following Jesus too, so the throng must have been hard to follow – but they kept going, they kept calling out to Him.
What is it that you need God to do for you, for a friend, a relative? Is this in God’s will? Keep calling out to Him. Never give up on your dreams. Just as Jesus said to the blind men, “according to your faith so be it unto you”, He will say the same to you. He still speaks. Never give up!
Dear Father, thank you for your many blessings in our lives. You surprised us time and again, and we are assured of Your love for us, not only in the gifts You’ve given but also in Your protection and sustenance. We praise You and thank You, in Jesus’ name, amen.
