John Spellman preaches at the Babylon SDA Church discussing faith. Jesus taught that if we would only believe, we would see the glory of God! What does active faith look like in today's world? How can we hold on to God's promises? What about when God doesn't answer our prayers right away? This sermon explores the story of Jacob and his wrestling match with God. Today, it's still possible to wrestle with God. However, in wrestling with omnipotence, how does one prevail? Here's the secret! (Please excuse the background noise, due to emergency situation at the Church.)
What does the Bible say about families? What wise words in the book of proverbs give counsel to families? Should parents discipline their children? Should you marry a person with anger issues? What virtues make a great wife? How can you make a home happy following God’s design for marriage?
What does Proverbs teach about relationships? How should people deal with conflicts with one another? How do words play a role in conflicts? If friends are to love one another, what does that love look like and how should it be demonstrated? What value should be placed on money in our personal relationships? This week, in Proverbs 17-19, Solomon explores conflicts and gives sound wisdom that can greatly impact how we get along with one another.
Part 3 of "When I'm Suffering Illness" on Ever-Present focuses on the health and medical professions? Is going to the doctor contrary to God's plan? If there are many who don't believe in God within the medical professions does that mean that Christians shouldn't get professional help when they are burdened with diseases and illness? Can true believers only be healed by miracles or does God bless people in the medical professions whether or not they acknowledge Him? Can it be proven from the Bible that God uses non-believers to be a blessing to believers?
The Bible teaches about a day lost in history. A day God designed for us to remember. This week's lesson uncovers the mystery of this forgotten and lost day.
I experienced real depression some years ago when all I wanted to do was just to lie in bed and just be lazy. It was painful to dress for work, to smile, to concentrate on other things except myself; I was just going through the motions. I was not physically ill, nor was I suffering from the burnt-out syndrome. It was not physical tiredness or exhaustion. I allowed the crucibles I was facing to almost get the better of me.
He had it all! Life was good. Yet he was so restless. He wondered what life was like on the other side of town – a place he had never been. He had never been to the movies, never entered the doors of a night club, and never partied until day light. He had never dressed in ‘bling’ clothing, nor had he ever had a drink. He was sure all the fun was on the other side of town. Yet, here he was-- living like ‘old people’. No fun, just the same everyday stuff!
But what exactly was finished? Do you think it was just the insults, the beatings, the slaps to and spit in His face, the blood draining from His side as death approach, and His life on Earth ended? Yes, those were finished; but there’s more. Jesus came on a mission to reveal His Father to us; to bridge the gap between God and man; to bring an end to the daily sacrifice; and to break the power of sin over our lives! Yes, His mission on Earth was finished! But my mind tells me that His words were also a warning to Satan telling the wicked rascal that he was finished!
