Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12 NKJV)

I didn’t think that sibling rivalry would be found in Christian homes; or is it just mines! Repeating the golden rule “do unto others as you would have them do to you” seems to be echoing everywhere else instead of my target destination – my children’s heart. But alas! I am guilty too. Are you?

“What do you do when someone does something mean to you? The first thing you may want to do is to hit back and make that person suffer. But that’s mostly what’s wrong with our world. Too many of us are hitting back. Doing to others what you would like others to do to you only makes sense. You feel pain when someone hurts you. So do the people you hurt. Loving your neighbor as you want to be loved is what Jesus is talking about. If the whole world would love instead of hate, then we would have heaven on earth.” (The Explorer’s Bible for kids)

We can heal our world by beginning with just me. Yes. Begin with yourself. If we strive to be kind to at least two persons and those two extend the kindness to another two, with the trend continuing, then we would reach our entire world. When we all participate, our world would be a kinder and happier place. You would be happier and being kind would be second nature.

So, what are we waiting for? Be kind to yourself and extend it to two. Let’s make our world a better place. It can be. You owe it to yourself. Be the example and live the example. God is counting on you to do your part to heal your world.

Dear Father, please forgive us for not treating others as we want to be treated. Please forgive us for not setting the right example for others to follow. Please help us all to treat each other as you’ve treated us, as we want to be treated. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
