Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High. Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. (Psalm 50:14-15)

The Bible records the story of Ananias who reneged on his vow to God and his wife as an accessory to the fact. Ananias had promised to sell his land and return all proceeds to God; but after the sale, he had a change of heart. He decided to lie about the sale price with the view of only giving part of the proceeds to the Church. His wife was in full support of this decision. He went to church and presented his offering, but the Holy Spirit told Peter that Ananias lied about the sale price. When confronted on the spot, his immediate punishment was death. The same punishment was meted out to his wife only minutes after his burial. A really harsh punishment for breaking a vow!!

Today's texts stated two conditions on which our prayers will be answered. namely, offer to God thanksgiving and pay your vows to Him. I searched through the concordance to build on the condition of paying our vows and it was interesting to note the following:

1) Continually offering the sacrifice of praise to God is the fruits of our lips. Heb. 13:15 2) Give thanks always for all things. Eph. 5:20 3) When you make a vow to God do not delay to pay it. Eccl. 5:4 4) Better not to vow than to vow and not pay. Eccl. 5:5 5) If a man makes a vow to the Lord, he shall not break his word ... Num. 30:2 6) Pay your vows that your lips uttered when you were in trouble. Psa. 66:13-14 7) The blessings of obedience - God will answer when you call. Isa. 58:9-11 God will answer and brake your captivity. Zech. 13:9 & 2 Kings 17:6 9) God will bless you abundantly. Jer. 31:27 10) You will be called the sons and daughters of God. Rom. 9:26 11) All who receive Him are his sons and daughters. John 1:12 12) God is for us and He will turn to us and bless us. Eze. 36:9-11

Thank God for His word - He is always showing us the way.

Thank you God for your many promises, for your instructions and guidance in our lives. Please grant us an obedient heart so that your blessings will be realized in our lives. Please help us to praise you continually and to honor our vows to you. Bless your people everywhere, in Jesus' name. Amen.
