"Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3)
The scene was set. The year was 602 B.C. The superpower of the day was Babylon with King Nebuchadnezzar. Back then, Babylon was the crem-de-la-crem of society. It was the place to be.
One night, the king had a dream – a very troubling dream that awoke him from his sleep. He could not recall this dream that had caused him much anxiety; so he called for his wise men to tell him the dream and its interpretation. These men were highly paid magicians, the horoscope astrologers, the obeah man sorcerers, and the well educated Chaldeans. None of them could tell the king what his dream was about nor the interpretation. These Chaldeans tried to outsmart the king – just like how obeah men outsmart their clients. The Chaldeans wanted the king to tell them the dream and then they could tell him anything for its interpretation. But King Nebuchadnezzar would have none of their trickery. The death sentence was pronounced on all the wise men of Babylon.
“Hold on Arioch!” Daniel said, “What’s the haste?” Obviously, Daniel was not present when the above transpired. But since he and his friends were found to be wiser than all the rest, he and his friends were earmarked for death as well. God would have Daniel request and obtain a stay of the execution so that the dream and its interpretation could be given. Daniel went to the God of Heaven - the only true God who reveals His secrets to the prophets. He and his friends interceded with God in prayer that night. Despite the death sentence hanging over their heads, they could sleep that night!!
Daniel and his friends, in prayer, called on God to step in! God’s reputation was at stake if He allowed Daniel and his friends to be slain with the wicked!! God had to answer! And He did! Praise God. The very dream that God deleted from King Nebuchadnezzar head, He downloaded it into Daniel’s memory. He then gave him the interpretation and selected the save button. What a mighty God we serve!
Whatever troubles you may be facing, a death sentence may be hanging over your head, whether you are guilty or not: God said you are to “‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’” Jeremiah 33:3. In Psalm 91:15 God promised to answer when we call. He will be with us in trouble to deliver and honor us. David found God to be His refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. You can too. Just call Him. The recited prayer can’t do when you are in trouble. You need a prayer from your gut as you cry out to God for deliverance.
Just as how He answered Daniel and his friends, He will answer you. All you have to do is call.
Thank You Father God for revealing Your secrets to Your prophets. Thank You for answering when we call and for delivering us from destruction. Your people on this Earth are in trouble – many have a death sentence hanging over their heads. Holy Father, rescue, deliver and let Your name be praised. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
