Sermon by John Spellman at Uniondale SDA. What is the true purpose of coming to Church?
While God loves us unconditionally, His blessings seems to be on condition of our obedient response to Him. Throughout the Israelites journeys and the condition of their settlement in the promised land, their blessings was dependent on their "contract" with God. Their part in the contract was just to be obedient to God. This seems a very simple request, but many died as a result of disobedient.

People are more enlightened today and the Bible is freely distributed in many countries unopposed. Today, for many, sharing of the Gospel of Christ is much easier; and daily, many converts are won for Jesus Christ. But a few things have changed: the Word of God is not read as it should be, nor its principles held dear and practiced among all its believers. Many seem to be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and by their actions, are refusing to be counted. Many compromised its teachings and, instead of being true Protestants, have joined forces.

It is interesting to note that the Statue which symbolizes freedom throughout the world is now believed to be freedom only in America. Why so? Because the American people believe they are truly free and they act like it. Many people from all over the world (who are and/or think they are in bondage in their country) are desirous of entering “the land of the free and the home of the brave”. Many are still fleeing to this great country, even those who have been set free from the bondage of sin but not from its presence.

True sincere and genuine love isn’t just felt but is seen. The mark of a true Christian is their love in action. The love shared among themselves and with others. In a world filled with pretenders, we are bombarded with ‘plastic’ smiles and persons whose words do not match their actions. True feelings are faked, even in some marriages, as intentions are disguised under feigned appearances. In a world where this is the norm, as Christians, we are called to be different, to be genuine and sincere in our intentions and actions.

In the last days, the enemy of souls will be allowed to perform similar miracles of causing fire to come down from Heaven. Not only that, there will be sightings of Christ in different parts of our world. All these are designed to deceive. Many will not see the signs of deception posted along the way. I can just imagine many solidly booked flights bound for those destinations!

What is it like in your church? Have they become a ‘den of thieves’ or is it still a ‘house of prayer’? Like Jesus, we all can make a difference. We can do our part to keep God’s temple a house of prayer for all people. May God help us to stand for the right, though the heavens falls. It’s time we turn the emphasis back on God because His house is a house of prayer for all people.
