Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; (Romans 12:9-12)

True sincere and genuine love isn’t just felt but is seen. The mark of a true Christian is their love in action. The love shared among themselves and with others. In a world filled with pretenders, we are bombarded with ‘plastic’ smiles and persons whose words do not match their actions. True feelings are faked, even in some marriages, as intentions are disguised under feigned appearances. In a world where this is the norm, as Christians, we are called to be different, to be genuine and sincere in our intentions and actions.

Christians should not be pretenders. We are to really love each other. Imitating our supreme example, Jesus Christ, we are to love persons but hate wrong behavior. Sometimes we get this mixed up-hating both the person and the behavior. However, when genuine love for each other is evident, we will see and hold tightly to the good in others in spite of a wrong behavior. Our love will be real. We will love each other in such a way that makes us feel close like brothers and sisters-which we really are. Others looking on will want what we have, what we share. Yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

They’ll also know we are Christians by our diligence in business; the intensity of our spirit as real love flows forth; our enthusiasm as we serve God. We will be positive, talk and live faith. If we are lazy, unfair, and harbor gloom, despondency and a complaining attitude, we will not attract others to Christ. Others will feel that we don’t really love God. We should make Christ attractive to the world, as He really is. Instead of complaining, let us rejoice in our hope that it won’t be long. Let us be patient in our troubles knowing that troubles don’t last long - the darkest part is just before dawn. Our communication with our Father will be sweet as He talks with us and show us the way to love, to be real, honest and sincere.

So go ahead, smile genuinely and show your teeth – plastic smile won’t work. Embrace sincerely. Encourage passionately. Share generously. Love deeply and honestly. Be real. Let love be real.

Thank You Father for showing us the real way to love. We are happy that You didn’t fake it. Your love is real because it pulls us to You and to each other. Use us to love Your children back to You we pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
